History Of MidSouth Bank

MidSouth Bank, originally established as MidSouth National Bank on February 7, 1985, underwent significant growth and transformation throughout its history. The bank's early expansion included the acquisition of Breaux Bridge Bank & Trust Company in Breaux Bridge, Louisiana, on September 17, 1987, and the Commerce and Energy Bank of Lafayette in Lafayette, Louisiana, on May 24, 1989. MidSouth Bank relocated its main office several times within Lafayette, with significant moves occurring on April 3, 1989, and August 1, 1995, to the same address at 102 Versailles Boulevard. The bank continued to grow by acquiring Sugarland State Bank in Jeanerette, Louisiana, on August 1, 1995, and MidSouth Bank-Texas, National Association in Beaumont, Texas, on March 22, 2008. On December 1, 2011, it acquired First Louisiana National Bank in Breaux Bridge, Louisiana, and on December 29, 2012, it expanded further by acquiring The Peoples State Bank in Many, Louisiana. The bank officially changed its name to MidSouth Bank, National Association, on June 8, 2000. Ultimately, MidSouth Bank merged with Hancock Whitney Bank on September 21, 2019, becoming part of that institution based in Gulfport, Mississippi.
