Meridian Bank Texas, originally established as Velasco State Bank on April 9, 1907, underwent several name changes and relocations throughout its history. In 1957, the main office moved to Freeport, Texas, and the bank was renamed Brazosport Bank of Commerce. By 1973, the institution adopted the name Brazosport Bank of Texas. Significant growth occurred in 1991 when it changed names to First Commerce Bank and acquired First Commerce Bank, National Association in Corpus Christi, Texas, along with relocating its main office.
