Mercantile Bank was established on April 9, 1906, originally operating under the name Mercantile Trust & Savings Bank. Over the years, the institution underwent significant changes, including a name change to Mercantile Bank on January 1, 2008. On the same day, the main office was relocated to 200 North 33rd Street in Quincy, Illinois. Later that year, on April 19, 2008, Mercantile Bank expanded its operations by acquiring Farmers State Bank of Northern Missouri, located in Savannah, Missouri. However, this independent operation came to an end when Mercantile Bank merged with United Community Bank in Chatham, Illinois on April 6, 2019, becoming part of a larger banking entity.
