mBank, originally established as The First National Bank at Manistique on October 13, 1934, has undergone several name changes and acquisitions throughout its history. In 1990, it became First Northern National Bank, followed by a rebranding to First Northern Bank & Trust in 1993. Later that year, the institution adjusted its regulatory structure and ultimately transitioned to North Country Bank and Trust in 1996. In 1998, mBank acquired North Country Bank in South Range, Michigan. On May 16, 2005, the bank adopted its current name, mBank.
