History Of MB Financial Bank
MB Financial Bank, originally established as The Mid-City National Bank of Chicago on May 6, 1933, underwent a series of name changes and acquisitions throughout its history. In 1984, the bank relocated its main office to 303 East Wacker Drive, Chicago, Illinois, and expanded its operations by acquiring United of America Bank on April 26 of the same year. The bank continued to grow, acquiring institutions such as Clyde Federal Savings Association in 1991 and Peoples Federal Savings and Loan Association in 1995. The early 2000s saw significant acquisitions, including Manufacturers Bank and First National Bank of Elmhurst in November 2001, which coincided with the name change to MB Financial Bank, National Association. By 2014, MB Financial Bank had acquired Cole Taylor Bank in Chicago, Illinois, enhancing its presence in the area. The bank engaged in several government-assisted mergers during the financial crises of the late 2000s, acquiring multiple institutions such as Corus Bank and Heritage Community Bank between 2009 and 2010. On May 4, 2019, MB Financial Bank merged with Fifth Third Bank in Cincinnati, Ohio, and subsequently changed its institution name to Fifth Third Bank, National Association, effectively marking the end of its operation as an independent bank.
