History Of Madison Square Federal Savings Bank

Madison Square Federal Savings Bank was established on April 4, 1870, originally under the name Madison Square Permanent Building Association. Over the years, the institution underwent several structural and regulatory changes. On June 30, 1986, it changed its name to Madison Square Federal Savings Bank and transitioned from a chartering agency under the Office of Thrift Supervision to a mutual savings bank. The primary federal regulatory agency shifted to the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency on July 21, 2011. The bank's main office moved several times, with significant relocations to 5415 Belair Road in Baltimore, Maryland, in June 2007 and then to 9651 Belair Road on March 21, 2011. In 2010, it changed its organization type from a mutual savings bank to a stock savings bank. Madison Square Federal Savings Bank merged with PeoplesBank, a Codorus Valley Company, on January 17, 2015, before ultimately merging with Orrstown Bank in Shippensburg, Pennsylvania, on July 1, 2024.
