History Of Luther Burbank Savings
Luther Burbank Savings was established on January 1, 1982, originally known as Luther Burbank Savings and Loan Association. Throughout its history, the institution underwent several significant changes. On September 30, 1996, Luther Burbank Savings acquired New Horizons Savings and Loan Association, located in San Rafael, California. The institution changed its name to Luther Burbank Savings on March 24, 1998. By October 17, 2000, it transitioned to a new classification as a Federal & State Savings and Loans institution, with the chartering agency designated as the Office of Thrift Supervision (OTS). In a further regulatory change on July 21, 2011, the primary federal regulatory agency switched to the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency. Subsequently, on September 9, 2016, the organization restructured its classification as a commercial bank and changed its chartering agency to a state agency, while also altering its primary federal regulatory agency to the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC). The main office was relocated to 500 Third Street in Santa Rosa, California, twice, first in December 2012 and again in May 2017. The bank's operations continued until it merged with Washington Federal Bank in Seattle, Washington, on March 1, 2024.
