The Lowell Five Cent Savings Bank was established on April 12, 1854, originally under the name The Lowell Five Cents Savings Bank, and it was not initially insured by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC). Over the years, the institution underwent several significant changes: it became FDIC insured on July 1, 1985, and subsequently expanded its trust powers to full on the same date. In 1970, the name was changed to The Lowell Five Cents Savings Bank, and then to The Lowell Five Cent Savings Bank on February 1, 1975. The bank further transitioned to a stock savings bank on September 1, 2011. I find that since I left Lowel Five in Lowell, MA and my bank is only down the street I find it very convenient.
