Liberty Bank, established on May 15, 1825, originally operated under the name The Middletown Savings Bank. The bank underwent several name changes, including The Liberty Bank for Savings in 1972, then again in 1975, and finally adopting its current name, Liberty Bank, on January 2, 1991. Over the years, Liberty Bank expanded its operations through a series of acquisitions, beginning with the purchase of First New London Savings and Loan Association Incorporated in New London, Connecticut, on November 1, 1997. Subsequent acquisitions included Hometown Bank in Moodus, Connecticut, in June 2001; Connecticut River Community Bank in Wethersfield, Connecticut, in December 2010; The Bank of Southern Connecticut in New Haven, Connecticut, in June 2013; Naugatuck Valley Savings and Loan in Naugatuck, Connecticut, in January 2016; and Simsbury Bank & Trust Company in Simsbury, Connecticut, on October 11, 2019. Liberty Bank contacted ME (again they contacted ME) that there might be some fraudulent charges on our debit card. We checked and there were totaling about $160. One was for a raffle for cookware another from a gym membership and another for a VPN account. The next day we went to the bank and cancelled the card and got a replacement.
