History Of Lakeland Bank

Lakeland Bank was established on May 19, 1969, under the name Lakeland State Bank. The institution underwent its first major rebranding in September 1997 when it changed its name to Lakeland Bank. Over the years, Lakeland Bank expanded its footprint through a series of acquisitions, beginning with the purchase of Metropolitan State Bank in Montville, New Jersey, on January 28, 2000. This was followed by various acquisitions including The National Bank of Sussex County in Branchville, New Jersey, in June 2001; Community State Bank in Teaneck Township, New Jersey, in August 2003; and The Newton Trust Company in Newton, New Jersey, in November 2005. The bank continued to grow by acquiring several other banks, including Highlands State Bank in Vernon, New Jersey, in January 2019, and 1st Constitution Bank in Cranbury, New Jersey, in January 2022. On July 1, 2016, Lakeland Bank acquired Harmony Bank in Jackson, New Jersey, and Pascack Community Bank in Waldwick, New Jersey, earlier that same year. Lakeland Bank moved its main office multiple times, with the most recent relocation to 2717 Route 23 South, Newfoundland, New Jersey, on March 28, 2008. Ultimately, on May 16, 2024, Lakeland Bank merged with Provident Bank, based in Jersey City, New Jersey, concluding its history as an independent banking entity.
