Kennebec Federal Savings was established on March 1, 1936, under the name Kennebec Federal Savings and Loan Association. Over the years, the institution underwent several significant changes, including a name change to Kennebec Federal Savings and Loan Association of Waterville on September 30, 1989. On July 21, 2011, it changed its primary federal regulatory agency to the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency. Ultimately, on March 5, 2021, Kennebec Federal Savings merged with and became part of Kennebec Savings Bank, located in Augusta, Maine.
