Ion Bank, established in 1870 under the name Naugatuck Savings Bank, has undergone several transformations throughout its history. The institution changed its name to Naugatuck Savings Bank on September 20, 1971, reflecting its geographic roots and mission in the community. Over the years, Ion Bank evolved from a mutual savings bank to a stock savings bank on March 1, 2005. The bank adopted its current name, Ion Bank, on October 18, 2013, as part of a rebranding initiative. Ion Bank expanded through acquisitions, including the purchase of Castle Bank & Trust Company in Meriden, Connecticut, on August 8, 2009, and Lincoln 1st Bank in Lincoln Park, New Jersey, on July 1, 2022.
