IBC Bank, originally established as Bank of Commerce of Laredo on September 2, 1966, has undergone significant growth and transformation through a series of acquisitions. The institution changed its name to International Bank of Commerce on May 1, 1989, representing a new phase in its development. Over the following decades, IBC Bank expanded its footprint by acquiring several other banks, including Valley Federal Savings Association in McAllen, Texas, on June 29, 1990, and Travis Federal Savings and Loan Association in San Antonio, Texas, on June 21, 1991. Other notable acquisitions include Castle Hills National Bank in San Antonio on June 25, 1992; First State Bank and Trust Company in Port Lavaca, Texas, on September 1, 1994; and Bank of Corpus Christi in Corpus Christi, Texas, on January 31, 1995. The bank continued its expansion throughout the 1990s and early 2000s by acquiring Stone Oak National Bank in San Antonio on September 8, 1995; University Bank in Houston, Texas, on November 6, 1997; Nbc Bank, National Association in Eagle Pass, Texas, on December 28, 2001; Local Oklahoma Bank in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, on June 19, 2004; and Commercial State Bank in Sinton, Texas, on March 16, 2007.
