History Of Horizon Bank
Horizon Bank, originally established as The First National Bank of Michigan City in April 1873, has undergone several name changes and acquisitions throughout its history. The bank's name was changed to The First-Merchants National Bank of Michigan City in November 1962, and in October 1986, it was rebranded as First Citizens Bank, National Association. In March 1997, the institution adopted the name Horizon Bank, National Association. Since then, Horizon Bank has expanded through a series of acquisitions, including Citizens Bank of Michigan City in October 1986, Alliance Banking Company in June 2005, and several banks in Indiana, such as Heartland Community Bank in July 2012 and The La Porte Savings Bank in July 2016. Notably, on June 24, 2017, it changed its primary federal regulatory agency to the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation and withdrew from membership in the Federal Reserve System. The bank continued its expansion with significant acquisitions like Salin Bank and Trust Company in Indianapolis, Indiana, in March 2019. The institution officially became known simply as Horizon Bank on March 26, 2019.
