History Of Hometown Bank
Hometown Bank, originally established as Webster Co-operative Bank in 1889, underwent a significant transformation in its early years. The bank was not initially Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) insured. Over the years, it gradually evolved, changing its name to Hometown Bank, A Cooperative Bank on January 28, 1998. In 2004, the bank limited its trust powers and further adjusted its organizational structure in subsequent years. On March 7, 2014, it officially adopted the name Hometown Bank and relocated its main office to 31 Sutton Avenue in Oxford, Massachusetts. The bank became a member of the Federal Reserve System on August 17, 2016, altering its organization type to Cooperative Bank Stock and its bank class to a state-chartered bank. Hometown Bank expanded its operations through acquisitions, including Athol-Clinton Co-operative Bank in 2011 and Millbury Savings Bank on October 19, 2019. On May 31, 2024, the institution changed its name to Bankhometown, reflecting its continuing evolution in the banking sector.
