HISTORY OF HOMESTEAD SAVINGS BANK
Homestead Savings Bank, originally established as Homestead Savings and Loan Association in 1889, has undergone several name and regulatory changes throughout its history. In 1985, it was renamed Homestead Savings and Loan Association, A Federal Association, and changed its chartering agency to the Office of Thrift Supervision (OTS). The organization transitioned to a mutual savings bank on January 2, 1991, and adopted the name Homestead Savings Bank, F.S.B. On November 1, 2008, it changed its classification to a Federal Savings Bank and shifted its primary federal regulatory agency to the OTS. Subsequently, on July 1, 1999, the bank changed its name to Homestead Savings Bank and became regulated by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC), moving from state chartering to federal oversight.
