Home Federal Bank

Home Federal Bank was established on January 1, 1929, originally operating as the Home Federal Savings and Loan Association of Sioux Falls. Over the decades, the institution underwent several name changes, becoming Home Federal Savings Bank on April 8, 1992, and later adopting the name Home Federal Bank on July 1, 2001. Throughout its history, Home Federal Bank expanded through acquisitions, notably acquiring Dakota State Bank in Colman, South Dakota, on May 27, 1999, and United Federal Savings and Loan Association in Aberdeen, South Dakota, in 1988. In the mid-2010s, the bank underwent significant regulatory changes, shifting to a commercial bank structure and changing its primary federal regulatory agency first to The Office of the Comptroller of the Currency in July 2011 and then to the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) in February 2015. On May 16, 2016, Home Federal Bank merged with Great Western Bank in Watertown, South Dakota. Finally, the institution became part of First Interstate Bank in Billings, Montana, on February 1, 2022.
