Gateway State Bank was established on January 1, 1907, originally operating under the name Goose Lake Savings Bank. Throughout its early history, the bank underwent various changes, including a significant transition on August 3, 1979, when it changed its trust powers to full. On October 13, 1980, the institution adopted the name Gateway State Bank and relocated its main office to 601 South Second Street in Clinton, Iowa. Subsequently, on September 27, 1999, the main office moved again to 1427 North Second Street in Clinton, Iowa. The bank continued its operations until February 4, 2019, when it merged with First Central State Bank, located in DeWitt, Iowa, marking the end of its independent existence.
