History Of Freehold Bank

Freehold Bank was established in 1869 under the name The Freehold Savings and Loan Association. Over the years, the institution underwent several name changes and regulatory shifts. In 2002, it became known as Freehold Savings and Loan Association, and shortly thereafter, it changed its chartering agency to the Office of Thrift Supervision. On January 1, 2009, the institution rebranded itself as Freehold Savings Bank and further transitioned its organization type to a Stock Savings and Loan. By September 26, 2008, the main office had moved to 68 West Main Street in Freehold, New Jersey. In 2018, Freehold Bank changed its primary federal regulatory agency to the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) and shifted its organization type to a Stock Savings Bank. It was on October 29, 2019, that the institution took the name Freehold Bank. The regulatory changes continued, with the bank designating the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency as its primary federal regulator on December 1, 2021, and altering its classification to a Federal Savings Bank. Finally, on October 5, 2024, Freehold Bank merged and became part of Columbia Bank, located in Fair Lawn, New Jersey.
