First United Bank & Trust is a financial institution that was established in 1900 under the name The First National Bank of Oakland in Oakland, Maryland. Over the years, the bank has undergone several name changes and acquisitions, reflecting its growth and evolution in the banking sector. In 1970, it acquired The First National Bank of Barton in Barton, Maryland. The institution changed its name to First United National Bank & Trust on November 21, 1983, following the acquisition of Cumberland Savings Bank in Cumberland, Maryland. The bank continued to expand by acquiring First United Bank of West Virginia, National Association in Oakland, Maryland, on August 28, 1995, and Myersville Bank in Myersville, Maryland, on November 20, 1995. On July 15, 1998, the bank adopted its current name, First United Bank & Trust, and transitioned its primary federal regulatory agency to the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC), while withdrawing from membership in the Federal Reserve System and changing its chartering agency to a state authority.
