First State Bank was established on January 15, 1981, originally named American Bank of Wheatland. On December 31, 1985, it changed its name to First State Bank of Wheatland. The institution underwent another name change on May 20, 1999, adopting the simpler title of First State Bank. In a significant event for the bank, it merged with Glacier Bank of Kalispell, Montana, on June 1, 2013. Following this merger, it continued to operate under the Glacier Bank brand until it was officially renamed Glacier Bank on January 1, 2018.
