History Of First State Bank & Trust
First State Bank & Trust is a financial institution that was established on February 1, 1926, originally named The First & Commercial National Bank of Williston. Over the years, the bank underwent several name changes, including becoming First National Bank in Williston in 1940, and later renaming itself First National Bank & Trust Co. of Williston on July 1, 1973. The bank expanded its operations through acquisitions, including the purchase of Citizens State Bank of Ray on October 15, 1987, followed by Williston Basin State Bank in Williston, North Dakota on January 21, 1988, and First National Bank of Crosby in Crosby, North Dakota on September 13, 1990. On April 24, 1980, the bank's main office was relocated to 22 East Fourth Street in Williston, North Dakota. Significant institutional changes occurred on January 1, 2020, when the bank changed its name to First State Bank & Trust, withdrew from membership in the Federal Reserve System, and became regulated by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) as a state-chartered bank, no longer a member of the Federal Reserve System.
