First State Bank is a financial institution established on May 1, 1935, originally named Farmers & Merchants State Bank. Throughout its history, the bank has undergone several name changes and acquisitions. On March 1, 1967, it changed its name to First State Bank. The bank underwent another name change on September 26, 1973, adopting the same name. In 1987, First State Bank expanded its operations by acquiring the Bank of Mabank located in Mabank, Texas, followed by the acquisition of the Bank of Athens, National Association in Athens, Texas, on July 30, 1994.
