History Of First Southern State Bank
First Southern State Bank was established on October 1, 1910, originally under the name The First National Bank of Stevenson. Over the years, the bank underwent several significant changes. On September 2, 1975, the main office was relocated to Old Mount Carmel Road and Lee Street in Stevenson, Alabama. In 1996, the institution rebranded itself as First Southern National Bank. A major transition occurred on November 30, 2005, when the bank adopted its current name, First Southern State Bank, and changed its primary federal regulatory agency to the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC). On the same day, it reclassified as a state-chartered bank and withdrew from membership in the Federal Reserve System. First Southern State Bank expanded its operations through acquisitions, including the purchase of Farmers and Merchants Bank in Centre, Alabama, on December 30, 2008, and Vantage Bank of Alabama in Albertville, Alabama, on October 31, 2019.
