The bank underwent a name change to The Bank of Marion in August 1977, before rebranding as First Southern Bank on August 18, 2014. This rebranding coincided with the bank's acquisition of First Southern Bank, also located in Carbondale, Illinois. Subsequently, in December 2014, First Southern Bank expanded its operations by acquiring Herrin Security Bank in Herrin, Illinois.
