History Of First Niagara Bank

First Niagara Bank was established in 1870 and originally operated under the name Lockport Savings Bank. Over the years, the institution underwent several name changes and organizational transformations. In 1998, it changed its designation to a Stock Savings Bank, and by 2000, the name was updated to First Niagara Bank. The bank continued to expand through acquisitions, notably acquiring several financial institutions including Cayuga Bank and the Greater Buffalo Savings Bank. In 2011, First Niagara Bank reorganized as a national association and acquired NewAlliance Bank. The bank's main office was moved to 726 Exchange Street, Buffalo, New York, in 2009 and again in 2013. On October 8, 2016, First Niagara Bank merged with KeyBank National Association in Cleveland, Ohio, effectively ceasing its independent operations.
