The First National Bank of Kansas has its origins dating back to January 14, 1902, when it was originally established as The First National Bank of Waverly in Waverly, Kansas. Throughout its history, the institution underwent several name changes and relocations. On March 20, 1990, the main office moved from Waverly to a new location at Pearson and Fourth in Waverly. Subsequently, on March 4, 1991, the bank acquired The Strawn State Bank located in Burlington, Kansas, and changed its name to First Bank, National Association. On the same day, the main office was further relocated to 600 North Fourth Street in Burlington. Finally, on May 29, 1991, the institution adopted its current name, First National Bank of Kansas.
