History Of First Montana Bank
First Montana Bank, originally established as the First State Bank of Libby in 1913, has a history marked by several name changes and acquisitions. The institution became a member of the Federal Reserve System in 1935, during which it transitioned from a state-chartered bank to a national bank regulated by The Office of the Comptroller of the Currency. In 1997, the bank adopted the name First National Bank of Montana, Inc., and further expanded by acquiring the First National Bank of Montana in Butte, Montana, in 1998, and United Bank in Libby, Montana, in 1987. The bank changed its name to First Montana Bank, Inc. on December 30, 2009, when it also altered its primary federal regulatory agency to the Federal Reserve and transitioned to a state-chartered bank. Significant growth was marked by the acquisition of Montana First National Bank in Kalispell, Montana, in 2003.
