First Mid Bank & Trust, based in Mattoon, Illinois, was established on February 8, 1865, under the name The National Bank of Mattoon. Over the years, the institution underwent several name changes and strategic acquisitions to expand its operations and services. In 1963, it became First National Bank of Mattoon, and in 1992, it rebranded as First Mid-Illinois Bank & Trust, National Association. The bank significantly grew through a series of mergers and acquisitions, including notable transactions such as the acquisition of Mattoon Bank in 1989, Heartland Savings Bank in 1997, and several others throughout the 1990s and 2000s. Terrible bank to work with. After switching over from Blackhawk Bank, we have had nothing but problems. First, there is no convenient way to make payments. No online payment options, you must go the bank each time to make your payment and then most times, it's misapplied or the wrong amount is charged. This bank is nothing but a headache. I've never had to try so hard for someone to take my money.... Read more
