First Federal Savings and Loan Association of Central Illinois, established on January 1, 1906, originally operated under the name First Federal Savings and Loan Association of Shelbyville. Throughout its history, the institution has undergone several name changes and regulatory transitions. On February 24, 2009, it was renamed First Federal Savings and Loan Association of Central Illinois, and on December 30, 2016, it further changed its name to First Federal Savings and Loan Association of Central Illinois, S.b., while also transitioning its primary federal regulatory agency to the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) and being reclassified as an FDIC Supervised State Savings Bank. In 2014, the organization type changed to a Mutual Savings Bank. A significant acquisition occurred on December 16, 2008, when the institution absorbed Charleston Federal Savings and Loan Association located in Charleston, Illinois.
