History Of First Federal Bank
First Federal Bank, originally established as First Federal Savings and Loan Association on October 16, 1936, has undergone several name and regulatory changes throughout its history. In 1987, it was rebranded as First Federal Savings Bank and transitioned to a stock savings and loan organization. By July 31, 1988, the bank changed its chartering agency to the state level. In 2000, the institution adopted the name First Federal Bank. A significant regulatory shift occurred on July 31, 2015, when the bank changed its primary federal regulatory agency to the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, reclassified as an FDIC supervised state savings bank, and changed its chartering agency back to state oversight. Prior to this, on July 21, 2011, the primary federal regulatory agency had been the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency. More recently, on January 1, 2018, First Federal Bank acquired Cumberland Bank and Trust, located in Clarksville, Tennessee.
