First Dakota National Bank, established on December 7, 1872, originally operated under the name The First Dakota National Bank and Trust Company of Yankton. On March 8, 1940, the institution officially changed its name to First Dakota National Bank. Over the years, the bank has expanded its operations through various acquisitions. Notably, it acquired The American State Bank in Yankton, South Dakota, on May 18, 1988, and subsequently moved its main office to 225 Cedar Street, Yankton, on July 29, 1988. In 1993, First Dakota National Bank further expanded by acquiring The McCook County National Bank of Salem in Salem, South Dakota, on April 1. The bank continued to grow, acquiring Bank 360 in Beresford, South Dakota, on January 19, 2013, and Dakota State Bank in Blunt, South Dakota, on January 1, 2016.
