First Community Bank, originally established as Chatom State Bank on July 8, 1909, has undergone several significant changes throughout its history. The institution moved its main office to various locations, including 206-208 Court Street in Chatom, Alabama, in 1971. In 1985, the main office was relocated to Military Road and Highway 43 in Mount Vernon, Alabama, and then changed its name to First Community Bank on May 9, 1986. On June 16, 1997, the main office was again moved to 210 Court Street in Chatom, Alabama. The bank merged with The First, A National Banking Association, on March 1, 2018, becoming part of this larger banking entity based in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. Finally, on January 15, 2022, the institution changed its name to The First Bank.
