History Of First Citizens Bank

First Citizens Bank was established on December 14, 1964, under the name Citizens Bank. In the following years, it underwent several name changes, becoming City & County Bank of Hardin County on February 2, 1983, Citizens Bank of Elizabethtown, Inc. on April 12, 1983, and First Citizens Bank, Hardin County, Inc. on April 10, 1986. The institution adopted the name First Citizens Bank on July 31, 1997. In its later years, the bank's main office relocated to various addresses, with a significant move to 425 West Dixie Avenue in Elizabethtown, Kentucky in 2004. The institution shifted its regulatory affiliation, becoming a state-chartered bank and a member of the Federal Reserve System on May 29, 2007. On February 18, 2017, First Citizens Bank merged with United Bank & Capital Trust Company, which was based in Frankfort, Kentucky, and subsequently changed its name to United Bank & Capital Trust Company. The bank continued to be involved in mergers and was ultimately merged with WesBanco Bank, Inc. in Wheeling, West Virginia on August 20, 2018.
