History Of First Citizens Bank
First Citizens Bank, originally established as The Citizens National Bank of Charles City on January 9, 1892, has undergone several name changes and acquisitions throughout its history. In 1973, the bank expanded its trust powers to full and relocated its main office to the Cedar Mall Shopping Center in Charles City, Iowa. The institution changed its name to Citizens National Bank in 1992, before adopting the name First Citizens National Bank in 1994. That same year, the bank acquired several other financial institutions, including the Osage Farmers National Bank in Osage, Iowa, and the First National Bank in Clarion, Iowa, significantly expanding its footprint. The bank's main office moved to Mason City, Iowa, in December 1994. Over the following decades, First Citizens Bank continued to grow, acquiring First Citizens Trust Company, National Association in Mason City, Iowa, in 2013 and Kanabec State Bank in Mora, Minnesota, in 2014. On December 31, 2015, the bank changed its name to First Citizens Bank and transitioned to a state-chartered bank under the Federal Reserve System, marking a new chapter in its operations.
