First Bank & Trust is a financial institution with a history that dates back to its establishment on November 2, 1925, as The Security National Bank in Brookings, South Dakota. The institution underwent a name change to First National Bank in Brookings in June 1958. Throughout the following decades, it expanded its operations and services, marked by several significant acquisitions. Notably, it acquired Home Trust Savings and Loan Association in Vermillion, South Dakota, on January 31, 1993. In December 2004, additional changes took place when the bank adopted the name First Bank & Trust, transitioned its regulatory status to the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC), and withdrew from the Federal Reserve System. The main office was relocated to 520 6th Street in Brookings on January 8, 2007. The bank continued its growth by acquiring several institutions, including First Bank of White in White, South Dakota, in May 2012, and First Bank & Trust of Milbank in Milbank, South Dakota, along with First Bank & Trust, National Association in Pipestone, Minnesota, both on August 15, 2015.
