First Bank of Missouri, originally established as First National Bank of Gladstone on July 2, 1963, underwent several name changes and organizational shifts throughout its history. On September 5, 1986, the institution changed its name to First Bank of Gladstone and transitioned from a federal charter to a state charter, while also withdrawing from membership in the Federal Reserve System. The bank adopted the name First Bank of Missouri on November 30, 1993, the same day it acquired The Bank of St. Joseph located in St. Joseph, Missouri, and Citizens Bank and Trust Company in Smithville, Missouri. On January 1, 2017, First Bank of Missouri merged with and became part of Security Bank of Kansas City, headquartered in Kansas City, Kansas.
