History Of First Bank of Georgia
The First Bank of Georgia was established on January 9, 1989, originally named McDuffie Bank & Trust. On January 23, 1998, the institution changed its name to First Bank of East Georgia, and later on July 24, 1998, it adopted the name First Bank of Georgia. On July 24, 2015, First Bank of Georgia merged with State Bank and Trust Company, based in Macon, Georgia, and the institution was renamed State Bank and Trust Company on December 31, 2016. The bank continued to evolve and, on January 1, 2019, it merged with Cadence Bank, N.A. in Atlanta, Georgia. This merger led to the subsequent name change to Cadence Bank on October 29, 2021, when it became part of BancorpSouth Bank located in Tupelo, Mississippi.
