First Bank and Trust of Childress

First Bank and Trust of Childress was established on January 1, 1909, originally operating under the name The First National Bank in Childress. The institution underwent significant changes on October 1, 1985, including a renaming to First Bank and Trust of Childress, a transition in its primary federal regulatory agency to the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, and a change in its chartering agency to state-level oversight. That same day, the bank withdrew from membership in the Federal Reserve System. In June 1970, the main office was relocated to 301 North Main Street in Childress, Texas. On August 31, 2021, First Bank and Trust of Childress merged with and became part of First United Bank, headquartered in Dimmitt, Texas.
