History Of First American Bank
First American Bank, originally established as The First National Bank of Artesia in 1903, underwent several name changes and acquisitions over its history. On October 18, 1995, the institution rebranded to The First National Bank and later, on January 30, 2009, it adopted the name First American Bank. This same day marked a significant shift in its federal regulatory status as the bank withdrew from membership in the Federal Reserve System and changed its primary federal regulatory agency to the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC), transitioning to a state-chartered bank. The bank has since expanded through acquisitions, including High Desert State Bank in Albuquerque, New Mexico, on June 25, 2010, which was facilitated by a government-assisted merger. On November 8, 2014, First American Bank acquired AmBank in Silver City, New Mexico. Most recently, on June 17, 2022, the bank acquired United Bank of El Paso del Norte, further extending its footprint into El Paso, Texas. The bank's main office is located at 303 West Main Street in Artesia, New Mexico, a site to which it moved on January 26, 2000.
