Farmers & Stockmens Bank was established on July 6, 1920, originally under the name The Farmers and Stockmens Bank of Clayton. The bank underwent a name change to Farmers & Stockmens Bank on July 16, 2009. In the same year, on November 11, 2009, it acquired The Citizens National Bank of Akron located in Akron, Colorado. The main office of Farmers & Stockmens Bank was relocated to 22 Maple Street in Clayton, New Mexico, on December 2, 1985. Ultimately, on November 22, 2022, the bank merged with CrossFirst Bank, which is based in Leawood, Kansas, marking the end of its independent operations.
