Farmers & Merchants Bank was established on January 1, 1911, in Tomah, Wisconsin, under the original name Farmers' and Merchants' Bank of Tomah, Wisconsin. Over the years, the bank underwent several changes regarding its trust powers, initially offering full trust powers in 1976, limited trust powers in 1988, and eventually eliminating those powers altogether by February 28, 2007. The institution also underwent a series of name changes, becoming Farmers' and Merchants' Bank on June 6, 1979, and later adopting the simpler name Farmers & Merchants Bank on January 24, 1980. Ultimately, on July 1, 2019, Farmers & Merchants Bank merged with Citizens Community Federal National Association, based in Altoona, Wisconsin, thereby ceasing to operate as an independent entity.
