Farmers-Merchants Bank of Illinois was established on January 1, 1921, under the name Joy State Bank in Joy, Illinois. Over the decades, the institution underwent several changes, including relocating its main office twice, first on December 31, 1986, and then again on March 31, 2006, both within Joy, Illinois. On October 1, 2018, the bank acquired Farmers-Merchants National Bank of Paxton in Paxton, Illinois, and subsequently changed its name to Farmers-Merchants Bank of Illinois on October 22, 2018.
