Farmers and Merchants Trust Company, originally established as Farmers and Merchants Trust Company of Chambersburg on January 10, 1906, has a history marked by significant regulatory changes and acquisitions. In 1943, the institution became a member of the Federal Reserve System and changed its primary federal regulatory agency to the Federal Reserve. However, in 1966, it withdrew from the Federal Reserve System and reclassified as a state-chartered bank not affiliated with the Federal Reserve, with the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) becoming its primary regulatory agency.
