History Of Essex Bank

Essex Bank, originally established as the Bank of Essex on January 1, 1926, has a history marked by several significant changes and expansions over the decades. The bank became a member of the Federal Reserve System on December 27, 1991, reflecting its commitment to maintaining financial stability and regulatory compliance. Subsequent to several relocations of its main office, including a move to Tappahannock, Virginia, in 1990 and again in 2006, Essex Bank underwent a significant transformation in 2009. On January 30, 2009, the institution acquired Suburban Federal Savings Bank in Crofton, Maryland, as part of a government-assisted merger, which was followed by the acquisition of The Community Bank in Loganville, Georgia, on November 21, 2008, and Transcommunity Bank in Goochland, Virginia, on August 1, 2008. On April 20, 2009, the institution changed its name to Essex Bank. Ultimately, on December 4, 2021, Essex Bank merged with and became part of United Bank, headquartered in Fairfax, Virginia, marking the end of its independent operations.
