Emigrant Bank, originally established as Emigrant Savings Bank on September 30, 1850, has undergone several significant changes throughout its history. In 1979, it expanded its portfolio by acquiring Prudential Savings Bank in New York City. The institution transitioned to a stock savings bank in 1986 and, in 1992, acquired Dollar Dry Dock Bank located in White Plains, New York. Emigrant Bank underwent a rebranding in 2005, changing its name from New York Private Bank & Trust and relocating its main office to 5 East 42nd Street in New York City. Following this, on December 31, 2012, it acquired multiple branches of Emigrant Savings Bank in the Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens, Manhattan, and Long Island. On October 1, 2023, Emigrant Bank merged and became part of Emigrant Bank in Miami, Florida, signifying a new chapter in its operational history.
