I am the Waelder Masonic Cemetery Chairman. A 501c non-profit organization that maintains the Waelder Masonic Cemetery maintenance funds. 10+ years ago we had CDs in several banks. Some of our funds were in First State Bank in CDs with CDs in another local bank. 5 years ago, we opened a Savings Account to transfer in funds for CDs and consolidate our CDs at one bank; this one. At the time their .9% CD was competitive and made sense, they wanted to work with us to get the deposit. So, we transferred our funds to the Savings Account and bought their CDs. To their credit, when rates went up to around 2%, they allowed us to terminate the matured .9% and buy their more competitive. Even though it was not the MOST competitive rate at the time; it was close and we were considerate in order to maintain the consolidated account. We ALWAYS gave Crossroads first shot at our account.
When we established the account, the bank had another name and policy for Savings Accounts. The policy changed or never was communicated to us, although it may be in the fine print. Now it is a depositor must deposit funds to maintain the savings account, while their interest paid to the account doesn't seem to count. When the bank changed names, they began to notify me the saving account was inactive. I contacted them 3x (every six months or so) that we use that account to buy CDs and transfer in the funds. I would ask them to try to make a note of this and know that when they are competitive again, we would move our money back there. They didn't care and did nothing.
About 5 months ago Crossroads started to extract our savings using the inactivity as a reason every month. Interest rates have gone up, rates have gone up, but this bank is greedy. Not only will they NOT match the prevailing rate, they will take all the money they can from a non-profit's account while we wait for them to catch up to what is going on!
So, our $100 place holder account became $19.55. We discussed this when I called to address. They could care less and when the bank where we have our checking account offered 5%+ we again gave Crossroads the opportunity to make it right, to give us their best rate; they failed miserably. Their rate offered is a full 1%+ under the majority of their local peers. We ALWAYS gave Crossroads FIRST SHOT at giving us their best CD rate. Now CDs are easily 5% they offered us 4%. I informed them I would take the matter before the Masonic Lodge and let them know what we would do. It took a month; they took more money out our savings account while I had to obtain consensus to act. Rightly so we voted to close the account and we just did.
If I were a depositor, I would drive down the road to another institution as this "family" bank is a greed monster and could care less about who is doing business with them! That means you! If they had zero stars, I would rate them that. They don't care about you or the community!
