Community Banks of Colorado is a financial institution that was established on June 26, 1973, originally under the name Bank of Cripple Creek. Over the years, the bank underwent various changes, including a name change to Community Banks of Colorado on March 27, 1995. In 2000, the bank transitioned to being a state-chartered bank and became a member of the Federal Reserve System. The main office of the bank relocated multiple times, including moves to Greenwood Village, Colorado, with a notable change of address on September 19, 2011. The bank expanded its operations through acquisitions, acquiring Community Banks of Southern Colorado and Community Banks of the Rockies on September 30, 2004, as well as Community Banks of Northern California on March 1, 2010. Despite these expansions, Community Banks of Colorado ultimately failed on October 21, 2011, and was merged with government financial assistance.
