History Of Commonwealth Bank
Commonwealth Bank was established on March 17, 1961, originally named Commonwealth Bank, FSB. Over the years, the institution underwent significant changes and mergers. On January 21, 2009, the main office was relocated to 101 Commonwealth Drive in Mount Sterling, Kentucky. Subsequently, on July 21, 2011, Commonwealth Bank changed its primary federal regulatory agency to The Office of the Comptroller of the Currency. In a significant transformation, on May 31, 2015, Commonwealth Bank changed its organization type to a Stock Savings Bank and subsequently merged with Town Square Bank located in Ashland, Kentucky, on the same date. Later, on December 7, 2018, the bank merged with City National Bank of West Virginia in Charleston, West Virginia, marking the end of Commonwealth Bank as an independent entity.
