History Of Colombo Bank

Colombo Bank was established on July 1, 1968, originally under the name Independence Federal Savings and Loan Association. Over the years, the institution underwent several name changes and organizational transformations. On July 1, 1981, it acquired Community Federal Savings and Loan Association of Washington, D.C., marking a significant expansion. In April 1984, the institution changed its name to Independence Federal Savings Bank, and by June 30, 1986, it transitioned to a mutual savings bank structure. Following a series of regulatory changes, including a shift to commercial banking on June 23, 2017, and a change of primary federal regulatory agency to the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation that same day, the bank rebranded itself as Colombo Bank. Its main office relocated multiple times, with significant moves in 2009, 2013, and finally to 1600 East Gude Drive in Rockville, Maryland, on October 23, 2014. Ultimately, Colombo Bank was merged into FVCbank on October 13, 2018, in Fairfax, Virginia.
